THE BIBLE SOCIETY IN CAMBODIA
God’s Unchanging Word in a Changing World

WHO WE ARE

The Bible Society in Cambodia is a member of the United Bible Societies (UBS), the largest and oldest interdenominational Christian organization. Begun in 1804, the Bible Society movement is now serving in more than 200 countries and territories around the world.

Like all other national Bible Societies all over the world, the Bible Society in Cambodia has as its motivation the fulfillment of the Great Commission (MATTHEW 28:18-20), through Scripture distribution.

The Bible Society sees the Churches as the primary agent of God's mission in the world. Therefore, the Bible Society serves the local churches and their partner organizations as a resource, but do not usurp their primary mission. The Bible Society affirms that the Holy Scriptures belong to all churches, recognizing that doctrinal interpretation of the Scriptures belongs to them.

The Bible Society is an expression of the fellowship of God’s people sharing their resources. These include, for example, spiritual gifts, knowledge, money, time, talents, and technology.

The Bible Society uses sound business principles in order to achieve maximum effectiveness and efficiency in its service. However, the ultimate goal of its activities is the fulfillment of the Great Commission.

OUR MISSION

Provide the Word of God to all people

• In the language they understand

• In the format and medium they appreciate

• At the price they can afford.

OUR VISION

The genocide under the Cambodian hardliner communist's regime known as the Khmer Rouges from 1975-79, and several decades of civil war, have left Cambodia not only with a traumatized population and socio-economical disaster, but also moral delinquency, corruption, crime, etc.

The leaders and staff of the Bible Society in Cambodia are convinced that the Gospel can bring healing and transformation to this wounded society. Cambodia may have a different history if only its people have known the Scripture.

Our vision is to see each person in Cambodia has access to the Scripture and has personal relationship with God.

OUR HISTORY

• An organized work of the Bible Society in the country was undertaken as earlier as 1892. However, only until 1968 that a Bible Society’s office was established in Cambodia.

• In 1975, when the Khmer Rouges took over the country, the Bible Society ceased its activities.

• In 1991, the newly recognized Cambodian Churches obtained permission from the government to start the Bible Society activities.

• On October 08, 1993, the BSC Advisory Board was founded and the Bible Society resumed its ministry in Cambodia.
